Five years after the first Modern Warfare, the ultranationalist Vladimir Makarov has taken up Zakhaev's cause. Captain John 'Soap' MacTavish leads the new multinational Task Force 141, while U.S. Army Rangers find themselves defending their own homeland after a shocking attack draws Russia and the United States into war.
The campaign moves from the slopes of Kazakhstan and the favelas of Rio de Janeiro to the suburbs of Virginia and the halls of Washington, D.C., and ends with a betrayal that sets up Modern Warfare 3.
Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer is legendary, with killstreaks, deathstreaks, customizable callsigns and maps like Terminal, Highrise and Rust. Spec Ops added two-player co-op missions, playable split-screen or online.
